What is your name?
Lauren Elizabeth Kontos. (Visit my profile)

How did you hear about Linking Raleigh, NC? Why did you decide to become a member?
I first stumbled upon Linking Raleigh, NC after conducting a search on LinkedIn for networking groups in the Raleigh area. I became a member of the group because I was impressed with the number of business professionals who were not only a part of the group but who also attended the events. It is a diverse collection of individuals, with a wide variety of skill sets. I enjoy getting the chance to speak with financier’s one event and IT professionals the next.

What kind of connections are you hoping to make by being a member of Linking Raleigh, NC?
Initially I wanted to meet people who could connect me to opportunities within the area. However, after attending a couple of events I am now interested in meeting anyone and everyone because each person has a very unique approach to business and the job search. I love receiving advice from those people who have had experience unparallel to mine because it allows me to keep a fresh perspective and integrate many different strategies to reaching my end goal of finding a great career that I will love.

Are you in business or looking for a new career?
I am a recent Master of Communication graduate from N.C. State and I am ready to begin my career. I went back to school after working for a year in the ‘real world’ to gain the knowledge, theories, methodologies and best practices within the field of communication. I am looking to use this knowledge to help an organization deliver an effective message to their internal and external audiences to help increase and expand their business.

What should other members know about you?
My parents told me that I started speaking at a very young age and never stopped, which demonstrates that I was made for this field. With that being said, I am an extremely charismatic, fun loving, hard working and motivated young professional.

While in school I was able to gain relative experience through internships and assistantships which is fairly uncommon for most candidates my age. For example, last summer I was given the chance to be a Public Information Officer for the NCDOT which was absolutely wonderful. I wrote press releases, social media pieces, newsletter articles, and a speech among other various projects and writing assignments. Additionally, this past year I held an assistantship with the Physiology Graduate Program at NC State where I spearheaded a marketing campaign, and through my efforts we doubled enrollment into the program.

Whether I am doing PR, corporate communication, marketing or otherwise, I am excited to build a career with an innovative and forward-thinking organization who will benefit from my former experience, education and knowledge.

What is your goal when attending networking events?
In addition to getting my name out there to the Raleigh business community, my goal at events is to meet a few individuals and have a meaningful conversation. Hopefully by doing so I can make a lasting connection and also gain insights which will not only help me find a position that I love, but will also make me a more successful person in life.

What is your favorite thing about the Triangle?
Duh, THE WOLFPACK! I hope to see some of you at football tailgating this fall. Go Pack!
